Donor scores: United Kingdom
The United Kingdom (UK) ranks 8th in this year’s Humanitarian Response Index (HRI). Based on its scores it is classified as a Group 2 donor. This classification allows the UK to compare its performance, not only to all other Organisation for Economic Co-operation Development / Development Assistance Committee (OECD/DAC) donors, but also to a sub-group of donors whose performance is similar. The other Group 2 donors include Australia, the European Commission, Germany, Greece, Ireland and the United States. When comparing the UK to all OECD/DAC donors, it is average in most of the five “pillars” – groupings of the key concepts of the Principles of Good Humanitarian Donorship, which the donors have committed to respect. It is also close to average in most of the “pillars” when comparing to other Group 2 donors, but above average in prevention, risk reduction and recovery and working with humanitarian partners. The UK scored close to average in 19 of the 35 indicators that comprise the HRI.
